Born Ravi Shankar Ratnam in 1956, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living Foundation, a non-governmental organization with UNESCO consultative status.
His other books include Celebrating Silence, An Intimate Guide to Sincere Seeker, and God Loves Fun.
Shankar’s teachings are founded in human values like compassion, love, and enthusiasm that is not rooted in any one religion or culture. A humanist, Ravi Shankar preaches a violence-free society, confusion-free mind, disease-free body, trauma-free memory, inhibition-free intellect, and a sorry-free soul.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was born in Papanasam, Tamil Nadu, and is a graduate of St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore. As a graduate at the age of 18, Shankar traveled with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and was invited by the Maharishi to conduct seminars and conferences on Vedic science and set up Ayurveda centers. After realizing the “Sudarshan Kriya,” Shankar started sharing it with the general public through the Art of Living course. He has also established a charity based in Geneva, Switzerland called the International Association for Human Values, engaged in rural development. Together with his father, and other citizens of Bangalore, India, Shankar founded the Ved Vignan Maha Vidya Peeth, a charitable educational trust in the year 1981. This trust now owns and operates schools that provide free education to over 2,000 rural children.
